Phase I of Great Yangon Water Improvement Project is now 99 per cent complete said a spokesperson of Yangon City Development Committee (YCDC). Lagunpyin project is phase of
the Great Yangon Water Improvement Project.

It was initiated in 2013 with the use of budget allotted by Yangon Region government. Some structures of the project have been constructed with loans provided by Japan International Cooperation Agency since August 2015.The Lagunpyin project is expected to be inalized in March, 2022. The phase I of the project includes construction of reservoirs, pipelines, water intake structure and water puriication plant.

U Myint Zaw Than, acting head of the YCDC’s Water and Sanitation Department, said: “For the time being, major distribution of pipelines are being installed along the project area to supply water smoothly.

Plans are underway to continue the installation of water supply network in wards next iscal years based on allotted budgets.” Upon completion the project, the YCDC can supply adequate amount of water to Hlinethaya Township in Zone-9, and Botahtaung,Pazundaung, Kyauktada,

Pabedan, Mingala Taungnyunt, Tamway, Lanmadaw, Latha, Ahlon, Kyimyindine, Dagon, Bahan, Sangyoung and Seikkan townships in Zone-1.The YCDC is currently implementing the Kokko River water supply project as phase II of the water improvement project.
